Hello friends! I am so thrilled to finally share something that has been a true labor of love for me. If you’ve been following along with my quilting journey for a while, you know how much I adore the process of creating, but you also know how easily things can get just a little bit… well, chaotic! Between the fabric stashes, the half-finished blocks, and those "I’ll remember this measurement" moments that we never actually remember, I knew we needed a better way to stay organized.
That is exactly why I created The Crafty Author Quilting Project Planner & Journal. This isn't just a notebook; it’s a dedicated space designed specifically for makers like us to capture our inspiration, track our progress, and celebrate every single stitch. I wanted to create a tool that removes the overwhelm from quilting so you can spend more time doing what you love: creating beautiful quilts!
Before we dive into all the juicy details of what’s inside, I have a fun video to share with you about how I tackle organization in my own studio. Sometimes, a little storage hack is all we need to get the creative juices flowing again!

Why I Created This Planner (The Struggle is Real!)
We’ve all been there, haven't we? You start a stunning scrap quilt series, and before you know it, life gets busy. You tuck the project away, and when you finally have a free afternoon to work on it again, you can't remember which needle size you were using or exactly how many more 5-inch squares you needed to cut.
I spent years using scrap pieces of paper and sticky notes that inevitably went missing. I realized that if I was feeling overwhelmed by the "mental load" of tracking my projects, you probably were too! I wanted a central hub: a beautiful, physical place: where all those details could live safely.
"A planned project is a project that actually gets finished. Organization isn't about being perfect; it's about making space for your creativity to shine."

What’s Inside Your New Creative Companion?
I didn't want this to be just another generic planner. I wanted it to be our planner. I thought about everything we need when we sit down to sew, whether we are working on a simple quilt-as-you-go table runner or a complex heirloom piece.
Project Tracking at a Glance
Each project section allows you to record the name of the quilt, the pattern used, and the start date. There is something so satisfying about checking off the boxes as you move from cutting to piecing, quilting, and finally: the best part: binding!
Fabric Swatches and Notions
How many times have you gone to the quilt shop and realized you forgot to bring a sample of the fabric you’re trying to match? This journal has dedicated spots for your fabric swatches and notes on the specific threads and needles you’ve chosen. No more guessing games in the middle of the aisle!
Sketching and Design Space
Sometimes an idea hits you in the middle of the night, and you just need to get it down on paper. I’ve included plenty of room for sketching your own designs or auditioning different color palettes before you ever touch a rotary cutter.

The Benefits of Journaling Your Quilts
Beyond just staying organized, there is a beautiful, emotional side to keeping a quilting journal. Our quilts tell stories. They are often made for specific people or to mark special occasions in our lives.
- Preserving Memories: By writing down who the quilt was for and what inspired the design, you are creating a historical record of your creative life.
- Improving Your Skills: When you look back at notes from a project like an easy rag quilt, you can see what worked well and what you might want to try differently next time.
- Reducing Stress: Knowing exactly where everything is and what comes next allows your brain to relax. It turns sewing time back into a peaceful, meditative experience rather than a puzzle to be solved.
Are you ready to clear the clutter and find your creative flow again? I truly believe that when we organize our physical space and our project plans, we open up so much more room for inspiration.
